Flinthills Tech Bellydance Class Info!

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
 Bellydance: an ancient and beautiful art and a fun way to exercise! In this> course you will learn the basic moves of bellydance, about the various different styles, as well as about music and costuming! You will learn to dance with props such as veil and zills (finger cymbals) as well as how to make your own  full costume and by the last week how to choreograph your own dance! The materials fee will provide you with a chiffon hip scarf with coins, a silk veil which you will be able to dye any color you like, a custom dance top you will learn to make,  a set of zills, weekly handouts of the moves you learn as well as a cd of Bellydance music to listen to at home!


 SCHEDULE:
March 5, 2011 - June 18 - Sat - 3 PM to 5 PM

Cost  - total: $94.00 ($39 paid at enrollment, $55 paid on first day of class to instructor)

Location - Flinthills Tech, Emporia Ks

This will be my last show in Tahlequah at the fantastic Iguana Cafe for the forseeable future anyway so dont miss it! (:

We will be performing to non traditional bellydance music, for instance music from such diverse artists as : Toris Amos, Jack White, Pat Benatar and Alanis Morrisette just to name a few! This show will be a fun and unique expression of traditional bellydance moves mixed with our adventurous musical culture! email me under the contact page to learn more! Bellydance World Tour -Tahlequah, OK May 22nd

World Bellydance Tour is a ONE DAY ONLY series of workshops followed by a FREE evening performance!

PERFORMANCE AT 7PM!!!!
The performance will feature a wide range of belly dance events! Classic Cabaret, Russian Gypsy, American Tribal Style, and Ancient Improv. You will be treated to Daring Fire dancing, Spectacular Sword dancing, Elegant Veil, Stylish Cane! You don't want to miss this show!

In addition to this performance the audience will be treated to live drumming by Peace Beat Drummers!

A henna booth will also be available through artist, Cherokee Kimpel; as well as a FREE fortune telling table!

List of Workshops and Addditional Information

-COST OF ALL WORKSHOPS IS $10/PERSON per Workshop payable at the beginning of each workshop.
-There will be a 15 minute break between each workshop
-Drinks and snacks will be provided by Chili's (cost $2/person)
-There will be a streching/warm-up room avaliable to participants
-Wear something you can dance in.
-Participants might want to bring something they can take notes with during the workshops

10am-11am - 'The Journey of Bellydance Workshop' with Katya Zvezda

Come join us for a morning of Kurdish line dancing (don't worry if you don't know how yet!) and learn some of the origins of popular belly dance moves! This workshop will explore the journey of Middle Eastern dance as it traveled and changed from Egypt to California. Workshop participants will learn a lot about the different forms of bellydance across the middle East and U.S. Part lecture, part dance, and all around fun!

*Ages 10+ are welcome to attend


11:15am-12:15pm - 'Tribal Improv Workshop' with Mehpare bint Ejer

Reminding every woman what her body already knows! Along with emphasis on posture and arm placement/movement, learn some of the basic moves, how to take just a few of those and break them down for a free flowing improvisational dancing experience. You're ready to dance!


12:30pm-1:30pm - 'Grace of the Veil Workshop' with Ona Mira

Workshop participants will learn how to use the veil in all basic bellydance moves. This workshop will focus on the graceful movements achieved with the use of this, the most enigmatic and theatrical of dance props. You will go home with a further knowledge and comfort with the veil as well as handouts of all the moves you have learned.

1:45pm- 3:15pm - 'Nomad's Dance Workshop' with Luna Zahra

In this workshop we will explore the dance of the Gypsies (Roma)as they traveled across Europe. Workshop participants will learn an Eastern European Gypsy dance as well as Gypsy Fusion Bellydance. You will be provided with information on Gypsy culture as well as a handout of the moves you will learn. bring a wide skirt and a shawl!

2nd Annual Goddess Festival!

Katya, Ona and I had a great time last year at the Goddess Festival in Fayetteville, AR, and will be returning this year!

March 27th.  2010.  Katya will be doing a workshop on the journey of bellydance as it traveled from the middle East to Claifornia.  I will be holding a workshop on the dance of the Gypsies and Gypsy Fusion Bellydance.  Ona will be holding a workshop on dancing with veil.

 

About the Workshop: 'Nomad's dance' Led by Luna Zahra

In this workshop we will explore the dance of the Gypsies as they traveled across Europe. Workshop participants will learn an Eastern European Gypsy dance as well as Gypsy Fusion Bellydance. You will be provided with information on Gypsy culture as well as a handout of the moves you will learn. space is limited to 30. Cost is only $10. Workshop will last 2 hours.
